  • Abhay Ashtekar is an Indian physicist.
  • He was born on July 5, 1949, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
  • He studied under Professor Robert Geroch at the University of Chicago and received his doctorate in 1974.
  • He is the Eberly Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute for Gravity Physics and Geometry at Pennsylvania State University.
  • As the creator of Ashtekar’s variables, he is one of the founders of loop quantum gravity.
  • He was awarded First Gravity Prize by the Gravity Research Foundation, Massachusetts.
