Yuga
- Yuga is a unit of the cosmic cycle in Hindu cosmology.
- According to Hinduism, Time is endless and divided into four yugas. They are:
- Satya Yuga – The Era of Truth,
- Treta Yuga – The Silver Age,
- Dwapar Yuga – The Era of Truthfulness and Compassion, and
- Kali Yuga – The Iron Age
- Four such yugas make up a maha yuga.
- 2,000 maha yugas make up “The Kalpa” – The basic cosmic cycle.
Interesting Facts about Yugas
- Each yuga is progressively shorter than the preceding one.
- This is corresponding to a decline in the moral state of humanity.
- The first yuga was an age of perfection that lasted 1,728,000 years.
- The fourth and most degenerate yuga began in 3102 BC.
- It will last 432,000 years.
- At the close of this yuga, the world will be destroyed.
- It is recreated after a period of quiescence as the cycle resumes.
