India-Central Asia summit
- India-Central Asia summit is the first engagement of its kind between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders.
- The leaders of all five Central Asian nations- Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyzstan Republic attended the meeting.
- India and five Central Asian nations discussed the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and decided to set up a joint working group in Afghanistan.
- The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said that the summit is a reflection of the country’s growing engagement with the Central Asian countries, which are a part of India’s “extended neighbourhood“.
What are the three Goals?
- Mutual cooperation between India and central Asia was necessary for regional security and prosperity.
- The establishment of a platform for regular interaction among all stakeholders.
- To prepare an ambitious roadmap for the cooperation between India and Central Asian countries. This will enable the nations to adopt an integrated approach for regional connectivity and cooperation.
