India-Central Asia summit

• India-Central Asia summit is the first engagement of its kind between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders.
• The leaders of all five Central Asian nations- Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyzstan Republic attended the meeting.
• India and five Central Asian nations discussed the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and decided to set up a joint working group in Afghanistan.
• The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said that the summit is a reflection of the country’s growing engagement with the Central Asian countries, which are a part of India’s “extended neighbourhood“.

What are the three Goals?

1. Mutual cooperation between India and central Asia was necessary for regional security and prosperity.
2. The establishment of a platform for regular interaction among all stakeholders.
3. To prepare an ambitious roadmap for the cooperation between India and Central Asian countries. This will enable the nations to adopt an integrated approach for regional connectivity and cooperation.
