Ghaghra River

  • Ghaghra River originates near the Gurla Mandhota peak, south of Manasarovar in Tibet.
  • It is known as the Karnali in Nepal and Mapcha Tsangpo in Tibet.
  • It joins Ganga a few kilometres downstream of Chapra in Bihar.
    • It is the major left-bank tributary of the Ganges River
  • The total catchment area of the river is 127,950 sq km out of which 45% is in India.

It is one of the east-flowing peninsular rivers, like Godavari and Krishna.

Yamuna River

Yamuna River is the largest and the most important tributary of the Ganga.

It originates from the Yamunotri glacier on the Bandarpunch Peak in Garhwal in Uttarakhand.

It enters the plains near Tajewala.
